James Washington Golightly


Born 2 Jul 1820 in Hickman County, Tennessee, James was the son of Joseph Golightly and Abigail Smith. By 1830, Joseph and his family moved to Pope County, Illinois. James married Cynthia Ann Smith 1840 in Pope County, Illinois and they had children Francis, James M. (m. Victoria Thompson), Theodore (d. at the siege of Vicksburg, MS during the Civil War), George W. (m. Mary Jane Wyatt), Isaac Sanford (m. Martha Lett), Mary Ann, William, Cynthia Ann (possibly m. William Nelson), Alonzo (m. Martha Jackson), and Maria Bell.

He died 10 Dec 1903 and according to The Charleston Courier, he had been married three times and was the father of 24 children. He was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri.
